Black smoke Maine Coon kittens.
Black on the surface, silver underneath. Black smoke is one of the most striking European Maine Coon colors, and one of the hardest to judge in a young kitten.
What makes a smoke
Smoke comes from the inhibitor gene acting on a solid coat. The tip of each hair keeps its black pigment while the root stays pale, so the coat shimmers silver when it parts.
A smoke kitten can look solid black for weeks. That's why we never promise a color before it shows.
